Antalya at 9 o’clock in the morning. The plane has landed in time. Your holiday starts now. As we are leaving the air–conditioned Airbus, it is like being sprayed with mace into the face, one of the passengers announces! It is 41°C in the shade at 9.00 o’clock in the morning!
Unbelievable!
Happy is the person who has booked in advanced, because most Turkish resorts are fully booked. This does not mean there is no accommodation left, just that there are no more flights available. Travel agencies try to find all the empty seats available, maybe even putting on another plane. And the ones without tickets? They have to wait, maybe someone will not turn up.

Last chance – last minute can be your opportunity

41°C in the shade at 9 o´clock in the morning. No problem. Everything is different here. Temperatures like that are normal in the summer time. Everything is geared up to it. Busses have air conditioning just as the hotels and bigger shops too, and there is usually some kind of cooling system in the smaller boutiques and markets as well.
First of all, change into your swimming wear and jump into the sea or pool, really refreshing! Later, the tour guide will talk about your accommodation, the local people and about the trips on offer whilst you have a drink from the bar. Now your holiday starts. Listen while he or she explains about the sights, where to go and what to do. Even though the guide will get some commission out of this, it will be your adventure and you will learn something new.

Next to Disco and restaurants ...

Turkey never has been the usual sort of package holiday: breakfast, gymnastics around the pool, lunch, afternoon tea, supper, a small show followed by a disco – all that 7 days per week – if possible all inclusive – and back home again. And when somebody asks, ‘What about your holiday?’ ‘Oh, yes, thank you, lovely! Wonderful eating out, lot of drinks, nice but hot weather, by the way, darling, where have we been this year?’
Certainly, it is lovely when you don’t have to worry about anything. Children are not always thirsty or hungry or needing to be amused because they are bored. Food is being prepared which is suitable for European tastes and you are not continually taking out your wallet. Just relax without any care. As you do not need to worry about all the usual daily things, you should find a way to fill all this empty time.
Turkey means: Friendly words like – Merhaba – Pleasant day! Nasilsiniz? How are you?

Ancient places and weekly markets

Turkey means romantic trips in peaceful valleys where you can relax at a small restaurant, with maybe a grilled trout served together with fresh salad and warm pide bread. All this, still, for very little money.
Turkey also means visiting the sites of famous ancient places or spending a day rafting on one of the rivers.
Turkey means visiting natural beauty spots like Pamukkale, the caves of Alanya with their beautiful stalagmites or the asthma cave for your health reasons.
Turkey also means walking around the weekly markets choosing from fresh fruit and vegetables, the taste and smell of the different cheeses, the aroma of freshly roasted nuts, see collections of relatively unknown herbs directly from the farmer. Again, all for a price you can only dream about in Europe.

Wintersports and Swimming

Last, but not least Turkey means all sorts of winter sports are possible. In the morning start with a walk along the beach later on the same day go out for skiing. Even in December, the sea temperature is still comfortable enough for a swim. All this is possible after a short flight of about three to four hours from Europe.
It is no wonder that many people who have had experience in Turkey try to spend a couple of weeks over here several times a year. The huge number of different sights and variety of events will keep you entertained for years to come. You will always find something new and even more beautiful than before.
